ABOUT J

J Stevens is a Canadian creator, director and cinematographer. While J’s work has spanned many genres, formats, and job descriptions what has remained consistent is the commitment to bringing dynamic, personal, boundary-pushing, and visually captivating LGBTQ2S+ content to audiences.
J directed two episodes of Tubi's flagship original comedy series, THE Z-SUITE. Previously, J directed Peabody Winner SORT OF (HBOMax/CBC) and ASTRID AND LILLY SAVE THE WORLD (NBC SYFY). J is the co-creator, cinematographer and director of the high-energy mockumentary series, Slo Pitch which ran two seasons for IFC and is in development as a prime time comedy. J received a Best Directorial Achievement nomination at the Directors Guild of Canada Awards 2022. J was named one of Playback Magazine's 'Top 10 Filmmakers To Watch 2022' and was selected for the TIFF Filmmakers Lab 2022.
J is the founder and president of Spindle Films Foundation. Spindle Films Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports transgender, non-binary, two-spirit, and gender-diverse Canadian filmmakers. Rooted in an annual mentorship program supporting emerging filmmakers, the Foundation seeks to make the film and television industry more equitable and diverse by giving voice to underrepresented voices.
J is represented by Play Management in Canada and Mosaic in the US.
J is a Directors Guild of Canada Member and the Canadian Society of Cinematographers Associate Member.
