ABOUT J
J Stevens (they/them) is a Canadian director and cinematographer. While J’s work has spanned many genres, formats, and job descriptions what has remained consistent is the commitment to bringing dynamic, personal, boundary-pushing, and visually captivating LGBTQ2S+ content to audiences.
J received a Best Directorial Achievement in a Comedy Series nomination at the Directors Guild of Canada Awards 2022 for their work on Astrid & Lilly Save The World. They also directed on the Peabody award-winning series Sort Of. J was named one of Playback Magazine's 'Top 10 Filmmakers To Watch 2022' and was selected for the TIFF Filmmakers Lab 2022 and one of TIFF's Every Story Fellows.
J is the founder and president of Spindle Films Foundation. The Spindle Films Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports transgender, non-binary, two-spirit, and gender-diverse Canadian filmmakers. Rooted in an annual mentorship program supporting emerging filmmakers, the Foundation seeks to make the film and television industry more equitable and diverse by giving voice to underrepresented voices.
J is represented by Play Management.
J is a Directors Guild of Canada Member and the Canadian Society of Cinematographers Associate Member.
